the la grande main street program was established in 2008 by the city of la grande

and the state of oregon.

It was officially designated by the state on September 26, 2008 as an "Oregon Main Street Transforming

Downtown." La Grande joins 10 other Oregon communities which were designated as either Performing

Main Street programs or Transforming Main Street programs through this designation.

The La Grande program is currently being staffed and funded by the City of La Grande through its

Community and Economic Development department. In order for the program to reach the next level, it will,

at the appropriate time, need to be transferred to a not-for-profit entity capable of providing staff support

and program funding.
